Dry skin is frustrating for many. It can be visually irritating, and those afflicted may feel pain or itchiness. When dry skin appears on your face, you may be driven to do something about it. Thankfully, this is a common skin condition that has several treatment options depending on its source.

When in doubt, contact a dermatologist if you believe there could be underlying conditions to your dry skin. If you are suggested to get a dry skin facial treatment to remedy the dry skin on your face, there are several options for you.

Why Does Skin Become Dry?

Ultimately, dry skin is caused by water loss from the outer layer of your skin. Something as simple as a change in temperature or humidity levels can impact why your skin may be dry. If dry skin flares up in the winter, you’re not alone in experiencing this—especially if you spend time outside. Some symptoms may be a bit of discoloration on the affected area, itching, and flaky or bumpy skin. Dehydrated skin lacks moisture and can appear dull or rough.

In short, here are a few causes of dry skin:

  • Environmental
  • Too much abrasion
  • Harsh soap or other skincare products
  • Other skin conditions (atopic dermatitis, aka eczema, or psoriasis)
  • Too much heat
  • Medical treatments
  • Aging

While dry skin is relatively harmless, it can exacerbate or lead into other conditions when not cared for properly, such as atopic dermatitis (eczema) or infections. As dry skin cracks, this can allow bacteria to enter the skin and develop into an infection.

Benefits of Facials for Dry Skin

Receiving a facial that is as customized as your skincare needs is essential to see the best results. While the exact benefits depend on the method your dermatologist or esthetician takes to address dry skin, here are a few overarching benefits of facial treatments for dry skin:

  • Melt away stress while revitalizing your skin and spirit.
  • Boost circulation and collagen production with lymphatic massages, improving your natural glow
  • Achieve radiant, deeply hydrated skin that feels soft, supple, and nourished.
  • Enjoy a professional-grade deep skin cleanse that goes beyond what your daily skincare routine can achieve.
  • Target multiple skin concerns simultaneously for a comprehensive, rejuvenating experience.

Best Types of Facial Treatments for Dry Skin

For those with dry skin, hydration is the key to restoring balance and achieving a healthy, radiant complexion. The best facial treatments focus on replenishing moisture, strengthening the skin barrier, and hydration. Popular facial treatments for dry skin include:

Hydrating Facials: Packed with moisture-boosting ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, these facials work to hydrate the skin.

Oxygen Facials: Infusing oxygen and nutrient-rich serums into the skin, this treatment revitalizes and improves skin elasticity.

Collagen-Boosting Facials: Promotes firming up your skin while reducing dryness-related fine lines and improves hydration.

Gentle Enzyme Peels: Excellent for exfoliating dry skin without experiencing lasting irritation, as they remove dead skin cells to reveal smoother, more hydrated skin.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage: Stimulates your circulation for a refreshed complexion.

Tips for Maintaining Skin Hydration Post-Facial Treatment

Maintaining a consistent routine after a facial is essential, as your skincare cannot stop there. This routine can include suggestions from your dermatologist or esthetician for the best products and ingredients tailored to your unique skin needs. Additionally, incorporating good hydration practices are essential after a facial to maintain your lovely clear and glowing skin.

Here are a few tips to maintain skin hydration in between facials:

  1. Cleanse your skin with a gentle facial wash daily.
  2. Exfoliate regularly, but not excessively. For those with sensitive skin, this step can be skipped or maintained under the supervision of an esthetician during a facial.
  3. Choose non-comedogenic products for your skin.
  4. Stay hydrated and moisturized. This goes beyond your face, consider using unscented lotion on your entire body, as dry skin does not always just impact one’s face.
  5. Incorporate retinoids, which help enhance skin cell turnover rates and prevent dead skin cells from clogging your pores.
  6. Use sunscreen, even on overcast days.
  7. Keep your hands off your face.

Acne scars may be a persistent reminder to you of past breakouts, impacting not only your skin’s look, but self-confidence too. While no facial can be guaranteed to completely erase acne scars, the correct care can improve your skin’s texture and overall appearance.

At Soothe, we understand how overwhelming it can be to find the correct skincare treatment that suits your unique skincare needs. That’s why we are giving you guidance on how to find an effective facial that will not damage the layers of your skin further, but help meet your skin goals over time. While these facials will not “cure” acne scars, they can be complimentary to your skincare plan set by a dermatologist and beneficial for overall relaxation.

What Are Acne Scars?

Since acne is caused by clogged pores, scars occur because your body is trying to repair itself. They’re typically left behind even after the acne itself has disappeared. It can leave behind dark spots on your skin. Causes of skin scarring in the case of acne scars are deep skin damage, picking at pimples, your body’s healing process, and even your genetics.

With deep skin damage, all acne types can leave a lasting mark, but that’s especially prevalent if the acne goes deep into the skin. For example, nodules, which feel like hard lumps under the skin, and cysts, which are full of pus, are both capable of leaving scarring on your skin. These scars can become more prominent as you age.

There are different types of scars, and it is common for someone to have more than one type of scar.

If you have experienced acne in the past, you may notice the following:

  • Boxcar Acne Scars: Shallow or deep scars with broad, defined edges that give the skin a pitted or cratered appearance.
  • Hypertrophic Acne Scars: Raised scars that form when excess collagen is produced during the healing process, creating a thick, elevated surface.
  • Ice Pick Acne Scars: Deep, narrow scars that extend into the skin, resembling small holes or punctures.
  • Keloid Acne Scars: Overgrown, raised scars that extend beyond the original wound area due to excessive collagen buildup.
  • Perifollicular Elastolysis: Tiny, pinpoint depressions around hair follicles caused by inflammation and breakdown of elastic fibers in the skin.
  • Rolling Acne Scars: Broad, uneven depressions with sloped edges that create a wave-like texture on the skin’s surface.

Tips for Looking for an Effective Acne Facial

If you’re looking to get rid of acne scars, see a dermatologist, as there are many approaches to take depending on the cause of the scars and if acne is still present to help you prevent more scars from forming.

If you have the authorization to include an acne facial as part of your wellness routine, here are some key factors to consider:

  • Customizable treatments: Opting for a service that can adjust to your specific needs is a green flag, as skincare needs vary from person to person.
  • Experience in extractions: You may have some acne that requires extractions. While you may want to do this for yourself, leaving this part to the professionals ensures that you are preventing further damage or scarring to the skin.
  • Gentle products: what is sensitive to your skin can vary for each person, but look for non-comedogenic products that can help soothe skin irritation. If you have any known sensitivities, an esthetician should be able to accommodate your request.
  • Licensed professionals: While licensing can vary by the area that you live in, a facial completed by a licensed esthetician who specializes in treating acne-prone skin can ensure that you are in good hands.

While acne facials will not remove scars entirely, they can play a significant role in improving your skin’s texture and overall health when combined with a skincare plan that suits your needs. When in doubt on any of the above, feel free to question the spa or licensed professional to gain clarity before the appointment.

What to Expect During a Soothe Acne Facial

Soothe’s Acne Facial is crafted to target acne concerns while soothing inflammation, redness, and irritation on the skin. By using high-quality products and techniques, this treatment supports your skin’s health and improves its texture without further irritation. Here’s what happens during your session:

Your experience begins with a personalized consultation, where your licensed esthetician takes the time to understand your unique skin concerns and goals, such as scarring. This includes evaluating your skin type, discussing any specific issues such as sensitivity or recurring breakouts, and understanding your long-term skincare objectives.

This treatment starts with a gentle yet thorough cleansing to remove makeup, dirt, and excess oil, preparing your skin for the next steps. Specialized exfoliants are then applied to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, improving the product’s ability to absorb into your skin and minimizing future breakouts.

As necessary, extractions are performed using safe and hygienic techniques to address blackheads and clogged pores without risking irritation or scarring. Following this, a calming mask is applied to soothe inflammation, reduce redness, and balance the skin.

To end the service, hydrating products tailored to your skin’s specific needs are applied to lock in moisture and support your skin’s natural barrier.

With Soothe, professional care is brought directly to your door, making it easier to prioritize your skin’s health. Book your acne facial today and take the first step toward achieving clearer skin.

Getting rid of blackheads can be frustrating at best. Trying pore strips, face washes, and countless products marketed to you, only for them to come back over and over again. If you’ve struggled with banishing blackheads for good, you are certainly not alone. The good news? The right facial can make all the difference in achieving your skincare goals. Soothe offers several types of facials to meet your skincare needs. With our insider knowledge, we will break down what the best facial for blackheads should include.

How Do Blackheads Form?

To eliminate blackheads for good, knowing where they originate from can help you understand what options are available to tackle them.

Blackheads are small black spots on your skin that happen when your pores are clogged with a mixture of oils, dead skin cells, and/or dirt. They then turn black because the top of the clogged pore is open and exposed to the air, making it darken. Blackheads are common, not just on the face, but can appear anywhere on your body. They can be tricky to get rid of without a proper skincare routine.

Choosing the Correct Facial to Remove Blackheads

Not all skincare treatments are created equal, and the same goes for facials. Many facials promise a refreshed and cleansed appearance, and there are specific ones aimed to target blackheads. Hydration facials, Anti Stress Facials, or general exfoliation ones are examples of common facials that may not target blackheads. These will help improve your immediate appearance, but are not guaranteed to address the deeper issue of those clogged pores that occurred in the first place.

How Blackhead Extraction Facial Treatments Work

This is where blackhead extraction can become essential to the process of treatment and prevention of them. Blackhead extractions are a specialized process that clears those clogged pores of the oils, dead skin cells, and dirt that may be trapped in there. Facials that include this step, such as Acne Facials and some particular deep cleansing treatments work to dislodge these blackheads safely and minimize their recurrence. This means that the facial has to go beyond the surface to achieve clearer, smoother skin by focusing on the health of your pores.

Some spas may promise extractions as a part of the service, or offer extractions for an extra fee to your service. When in doubt, ask the spa or esthetician before booking an appointment to gain clarity on how they can best help you meet your skincare goals.

Tips for Maintaining Clear Skin Between Facials

A dermatologist can help you identify the underlying causes of blackheads and recommend the best medical treatments for your skin. This can include suggestions for the best products and ingredients that will get you to achieve your goals. However, here are some tips that many people find effective for reducing blackhead formation and maintaining a clear complexion between facials:

  5. Incorporate retinoids, which help enhance skin cell turnover rates and prevent dead skin cells from clogging your pores.
  6. Use sunscreen, even on overcast days.
  7. Keep your hands off your face.

As you can see, there are many steps that you can take to care for your skin. In addition to these tips, routine facials play a crucial role in maintaining clear, healthy skin. Regular facials can help keep your pores free of buildup. Combining these at-home steps with professional care creates an effective routine that supports your long-term skin health.

Why Soothe’s Acne Facial is the Optimal Choice

Achieving clear, radiant skin doesn’t have to be a struggle when you have facials in your routine, as many can accommodate blackhead extractions as a part of the service. Soothe’s Acne Facials, tailored for deep cleansing and targeted blackhead extractions, effectively help you reach your skincare goals. Whether you’re preparing for a big event or simply prioritizing self-care, we have you covered. For men, Soothe’s Men’s Facials also include blackhead extractions, recognizing the unique needs of male skin and providing a personalized approach to clearer, healthier skin.

As we age, it’s normal to notice the first signs of aging physically as fine lines and wrinkles. This doesn’t make them any less frustrating. You’ll likely find yourself searching for ways to smooth out those lines and regain that youthful glow that your skin once had. There is not a single one-size-fits-all approach. However, there are facial treatments out there that are specifically designed to target fine lines and rejuvenate your skin.

Here are some of the best facial treatments to significantly reduce fine lines and restore your skin’s natural radiance.

Best Facial Treatments For Fine Lines

Wrinkles are something that is a part of the natural aging process. There is no cure for them, but there are some treatment options that can reduce the cosmetic appearance of them. There are several types of treatments that can improve skin texture and tone. Here are some of the most effective facial treatments for addressing fine lines that you may hear about from your dermatologist:

Microneedling

Microneedling, also referred to as collagen induction therapy, involves utilizing tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process, boosting collagen and elastin production. Increased collagen helps smooth out fine lines, improve skin texture, and even reduce the appearance of scars. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that many dermatologists offer that can lead to firmer, more youthful-looking skin.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are another common option for reducing fine lines. By applying a chemical solution to exfoliate the top layers of the skin, chemical peels help newer, more smooth skin to appear. These can range in strength, from superficial peels to more significant skin rejuvenation. This should only be applied by professionals who understand your skin’s unique needs, but when used correctly, can result in a more radiant complexion with visibly fewer fine lines.

Retinoids

Retinoids are a powerful treatment derived from Vitamin A. Retinoid-based facials incorporate these ingredients to boost cell turnover and stimulate collagen production in your skin. Regular use of retinoids, whether it be in a facial or a prescription from your dermatologist for topical use can result in softening fine lines, minimize wrinkles, and improve overall skin tone and texture.

Hydrating Facials

Skin tends to lose moisture as it ages, leading to dryness and a deepening of fine lines. Hydrating facials are designed to infuse the skin with intense moisture using specialized serums and masks. These facials help plump the skin, making fine lines less noticeable while restoring a healthy, dewy glow to the skin on your face.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing utilizes concentrated beams of energy to remove damaged skin cells by the layer. This can promote collagen production and the growth of new skin cells, which leads to firmer, more smooth skin with fewer fine lines. There are different types of lasers that your dermatologist can use, such as ablative and non ablative to meet your skincare goals depending on the intensity of the treatment.

Factors to Consider

With reducing fine lines and improving skin texture, several factors can influence the right facial treatment for you. First and foremost, consulting a dermatologist is essential. They can determine the right course of action for your skincare looks or concerns. These skilled professionals will help you determine a routine that works best for you. Whether your concerns are purely cosmetic or medically oriented, a professional can help you navigate the overwhelming array of skincare options and feel empowered to choose the right treatments for yourself.

Your age, skin type, and specific concerns—such as losing elasticity, dry skin, or sun damage—are all important factors. Some facials, like Soothe’s Age-Defy Facial, focus on overall skin hydration and renewing the skin with treatments specifically designed for aging skin. Other facials may be more suitable for sensitive skin or those battling acne, and we offer those, too..

Remember, skincare is not one-size-fits-all. Your skin needs can evolve over time, not only with age, but geographically as well. The right facial can make all the difference in maintaining or restoring your skin’s youthful glow. Choose a treatment that addresses both immediate concerns and long-term skin health.

You have sensitive skin that deserves the best care to stay happy, healthy, and confident while meeting your wellness goals. This might feel like a herculean task with your sensitive skin. While it is always best to consult with a dermatologist for any daily skincare needs, we are here to guide you on what to expect from facials designed for sensitive skin. We break down below how to prepare for a facial with sensitive skin before, during, and after your session, and what to look for to experience the best skincare for your very sensitive skin.

How to Prepare for a Sensitive Skin Facial With Soothe

Whether this is your first facial or you’re a frequent flyer, preparing for a sensitive skin facial with a Soothe provider at home is essentially the same as what you would do to prepare for a spa facial.

Before your Sensitive Skin Facial:

Before your facial session, it is important to cleanse your face the day of your facial, free of makeup and skincare products. We also recommend that you stay hydrated in the time leading up to the appointment. All providers will bring the necessary products for your at-home facial. Here’s what else you should do in the days leading up to your appointment:

  • Avoid exfoliation your skin in the 24-48 hours prior to your facial, and consider stopping stronger skincare treatments such as retinoids or acids in the week prior.
  • Limit your sun exposure before your appointment, avoiding tanning beds or sunbathing 48 hours before your appointment.
  • Communicate with your provider about any skin concerns, allergies, or common sensitivities before your appointment.
  • Remove your jewelry before your session and turn off or mute your cell phone during the appointment.

Soothe Protip: Add in your scent likes and dislikes in our app before your mobile sensitive skin facial.

During your Sensitive Skin Facial:

During the session, you are welcome to use your own table, towels, sheets, or music if preferred to create the soothing atmosphere you need. Here’s how you can expect your sensitive skin facial to go with a Soothe provider:

  • Before starting your treatment, the provider will assess your skin and make product selections based on anything communicated beforehand, and begin any aromatherapy treatments to set the mood.
  • Next, your skin will be deeply cleansed and gently exfoliated to remove any impurities in your skin.
  • Certified estheticians will gently massage your face throughout the session to reduce stress as part of the facial.

After your Sensitive Skin Facial:

We recommend being gentle with your skin after the session to yield the best results. This can include:

  • Hydrate and moisturize your skin with your regular gentle moisturizer and drink water regularly.
  • Avoid heavy makeup for the rest of the day to give your skin time to breathe.
  • Stay away from direct sunlight for the next 48 hours, and if you cannot avoid it, utilize sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
  • In the following 24-48 hours, skip the sauna sessions, hot showers, or strenuous exercise that would result in excessive sweating.
  • Be gentle with your skin, avoiding any additional harsh scrubs or treatments in the 3-5 days after the session.
  • Consider documenting images of your face after the session to help you and your esthetician understand your skin’s response to the products used.

Above all, follow your Esthetician’s advice for aftercare that will be beneficial to your lifestyle and skin needs.

Best Facial for Sensitive Skin

Caring for sensitive skin doesn’t have to be a difficult task, but the process of enhancing your routine with the proper professional treatment can make it easier with the tips outlined above. Soothe offers a variety of at-home facial services to suit your skin. For sensitive skin, we recommend our Anti-Stress facial.

If you want a relaxing facial experience, anti-stress facials are meant to help you unwind in the comfort of your home, office, or hotel room. While we say that this facial is ideal for all skin types, we truly mean it. The main benefits of at-home anti-stress facials include a healthier, brighter complexion, reduced skin irritation, and reduced redness. Regular destressing facials improve skin texture, repair the skin barrier, and ease tension.

Facials are an excellent way to take your skincare to the next level. But do you find yourself asking, “Which type of facial should I get?” The best type of facial to get depends a lot on your skin type and your skincare goals. But this guide is a great place to start to learn about the benefits of getting a facial! We’ll answer your facial FAQs, and help you find the right treatment for your skin.

What are the benefits of facials for my skin?

Let’s start with the basics: What does a facial actually do? A professional facial experience differs from the DIY skincare masks you use at home! Beyond relaxation, facials are designed to improve your skin’s look and feel. The type of facial you choose will yield different results. Some treatments are more focused on providing extra moisture, while others use products designed to prevent signs of aging. But most facials involve a cleansing process followed by exfoliation to smooth, soften, and treat common skin concerns.

Benefits of professional facials for women and men

Should I get a facial?

Short answer: yes! With so many different types of skincare facials available, there’s something for every type of skin and concern. The next question is usually, “When should I get a facial?” While many people use facials as a treat, getting regular facials is an excellent part of any skincare routine. People often book skincare facials before big events like weddings to help them look their best. However, some types of facials, like microdermabrasion, may cause redness and irritation, so it’s best to ensure you have at least a few days for your skin to calm and neutralize before the big day.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor before booking a facial. For people with sensitive skin or allergies, make sure any products your esthetician uses are okay for your skin. Always discuss your skin concerns, allergies, and sensitivities with your skincare provider before starting your facial appointment.

How often do I need a professional facial to see results?

This depends on the type of facials you get and your skin concerns. For example, a hydrating facial should give you an instant dose of moisture, so you may only need one treatment. Regular treatments may be necessary to see lasting results if you have any major skin concerns, such as acne. Work with your esthetician to create the best treatment plan for your skin type and schedule.

Best facials for dry skin, anti-aging facials, and acne facials

What’s the best type of facial to get?

A professional esthetician can best determine which facials to add to your routine and recommend how often to book them. There are some general rules of thumb for the best types of facials to get, though! For example, hydrating facials are recommended during the winter when the weather is drier. However, a detoxing anti-stress facial can help clear out excess sweat and congestion during the hot and humid summer.

Whether you’re new to facials or a seasoned pro, check out our guide below to determine the best type of facial to get based on your skin type and concerns.

Breakout prone: professional acne facial

Acne is more common than you think. But it does require specific treatment. Many DIY acne treatments and washes tend to be over-drying. Getting regular facials with a professional esthetician can reduce the severity and frequency of breakouts. Always consult a dermatologist for a custom facial treatment plan for severe acne. Facials for acne-prone skin often include cleansing, gentle exfoliation, and occasional extractions. An Acne Facial with Soothe includes products specifically designed to help combat acne and reduce inflammation, redness, and irritation.

Starting to show wrinkles: age-defying facial

If you’re concerned about your skin showing your age, look for a rejuvenating facial to restore your youthful glow. During an age-defying facial, you can expect a few key things. Your esthetician will choose products that fight free radicals while concentrating on diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment should include clinically proven ingredients that strengthen the skin barrier, provide moisture, and restore brightness and fullness. Book regular age defy facials with a professional esthetician for the best results.

Rough skin from shaving: men’s facial

Guys’ skin goes through a lot. And since most men tend to skimp on their skincare routine, so you may need some extra TLC. A men’s facial is the best way to improve your skincare routine with minimal effort. A facial for men will reduce irritation from shaving with soothing treatments and gentle massage. Your esthetician can also perform extractions and exfoliating treatments to reveal a clearer, brighter complexion.

A pampering experience: anti-stress facial

This type of facial is great for beginners! If you want a relaxing facial experience, anti-stress facials are for you! Ideal for all skin types, Soothe’s Anti-Stress facial is an experience for the senses. Professional estheticians use special massage techniques to relax the facial muscles, stimulate cell turnover, and detoxify the skin. Paired with essential oils and aromatherapy, a classic facial like this leaves you feeling calm and restored.

Dry or peeling skin: hydrating facial

Moisture is key for healthy skin. But UV rays (looking at you, sun), pollution, and not drinking enough water can all contribute to dry, dull skin. To make the most of your facial skin care regimen, estheticians recommend incorporating hydrating treatments. A hydrating facial includes gentle cleansing to remove impurities, followed by healing and moisturizing products. You’ll also get a gentle facial massage to stimulate and rejuvenate your skin for a radiating, glowing complexion.

Book a professional facial at home with Soothe's on-demand estheticians

Where should I go to book a professional facial?

You can get a facial at a spa, dermatologist’s office, or even at home. Mobile wellness providers like Soothe connect you to professional skin care experts without having to leave your home or hotel. One of the benefits of at-home facials over spa facials is the added relaxation of staying home. There’s less stress dealing with traffic, parking, and crowds. Plus, scheduling regular appointments is easier when you don’t have to travel! On-demand and at-home facials are still performed by licensed estheticians, so you’ll get a spa-quality experience with a skincare expert. Plus, you can book with the same esthetician for future appointments to see the best progress with your skincare goals.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

You’ve booked a facial- now what? We asked professional estheticians what to do before your facial appointment to maximize the results. Here’s what they recommend:

  • Be ready to discuss your current skincare routine with your esthetician. Don’t forget to tell them about your specific skincare concerns, the products you use, and any sensitivities or allergies you have prior to starting the treatment.
  • Avoid heavy exfoliation for a few days prior to your appointment. You’ll get professional exfoliating treatments as part of your facial. Too much exfoliating can be irritating and actually make your skin conditions worse.
  • Men shouldn’t shave on the day of their appointment. To minimize any sensitivity or irritation, guys should avoid shaving the morning of their facial treatment. Don’t worry- you’ll receive a great facial even with stubble or fuller facial hair.
  • Remove any makeup and jewelry prior to the appointment. You’ll want to start with clean skin and avoid getting any product on your earrings or necklaces.
  • Turn off your cell phone during the session to enhance your relaxation. There’s nothing more jarring than getting a work email in the middle of a facial!
  • Try to avoid direct sun exposure after getting a professional facial. Always use SPF to protect your skin!

A licensed professional comes directly to you when you book with Soothe. Select your appointment type below for a quick guide on how to prepare for for your appointment.

Massage Appointments

Whether you’re targeting tense muscles with a Deep Tissue Massage or relaxing peacefully with a Swedish Massage, your therapist is equipped to provide a massage that fits your needs.

Plan to shower or bathe before your massage therapist arrives. Clear a 5ft x 12ft space for your therapist’s massage table (or a 10ft x 12ft space for a couples massage), preferably near a sink. Before you begin, make sure your therapist is aware of any injuries, allergies, and preferences you have.

After your therapist sets up, they will leave the room so you can dress down to your comfort level, under a sheet. For this reason, you may want to wear clothing that is easy to remove and put back on.

During your massage, feel free to communicate about what pressure you’d like and problem areas you’d like to avoid or target- remember, your appointment is always in your hands.

Love your Provider? Be sure to add them to your Favorites in your Soothe app and leave a tip and rating to spread those good vibes.

Facial appointments

Facials are a great way to moisturize, cleanse pores, and get a glowy, youthful appearance. Depending on your skin type and needs, you can choose between a Hydrate, Acne, Age-defy, Anti-stress, or Men’s facial. After a licensed professional accepts your appointment, use the Soothe app to chat about your skin and what you hope to achieve.

Before your appointment, you should wash your face and skip the makeup. Avoid facial waxing and laser treatments within 1 and 2 weeks of your appointment, respectively. Exfoliation within 48 hours of your appointment should also be avoided, along with recent botox or fillers. If you’re on Accutane, please consult a doctor before booking.

Your Provider will bring all the products needed for your facial appointment. Feel free to ask questions and get their recommendation for ongoing treatment to best achieve the results you want. If you’d like to continue a regularly scheduled regimen with your Provider, be sure to add them to your Favorites in the Soothe app for future bookings. And don’t forget to leave a tip and rating to show your appreciation.

Nail appointments

Mani-pedis are perfect for those who like to dazzle with color, nourish their nails, or just want some soothing me-time. If you have gel polish on your nails, make sure to add a gel soak-off to your appointment so your Provider is prepared to remove your old polish before a new coat is applied. After your appointment is confirmed, chat with your Provider through the Soothe app to let them know what color, shape, or design you’d prefer.

Your Provider will bring everything, including nail polish colors, top coats, bottom coats, cuticle oil, cuticle nipper, cuticle softener, nail file, clippers, pedicure and hand bowls, nail polish remover, buffer, cotton pads, lotion, scrub, and cleaning supplies.

Prior to your appointment, make sure there’s enough space to sit in a comfortable position for both you and your Provider. If you’re receiving a pedicure,  we recommend non-carpeted spaces, or you may want to place a towel under your feet to soak up any excess water from the pedicure bowl.

If you’re receiving a Classic Nail treatment, remember that you can’t dry right away, so relax for 15-20 minutes. Results can last up to 2 weeks. After a Gel treatment, there’s no time required to dry. You can get going right away, including wearing socks and shoes. Results can last up to 3 weeks.

Keep your nails dazzling all year round by scheduling ahead in the Soothe app. Add your Provider to your Favorites to book with them again in the future, and don’t forget to leave a tip for your tips.

Hair appointments

Haircare and hairstyling are fundamental to looking and feeling great. Select from four different hair services: Haircut, Blowout, Updo, and Braids. If you have facial hair, you can also add on a special grooming service when you book your appointment.

Don’t worry about equipment. For all hair treatments, your Provider will bring professional haircare and styling products, including a cape, blow-dryer, handheld mirror, hairbrushes, sanitation and cleaning supplies, and even hot tools like a straightener and a curling iron.

Before any appointment, make sure your hair is clean and you’ve cleared a space near an outlet. Remember- communication is key! Use the Soothe app to chat with your stylist and  share any allergies to ingredients or products, and let them know what look you’d like to achieve.

If you love your look and want to book the same stylist in the future, head to the Soothe app and add them to your Favorites. Show some love by leaving a tip and a kind rating.

Makeup appointments

When you book a treatment with a licensed Provider, you get a professional cosmetologist who’s there to make you look and feel beautiful for any event or special occasion.

Best of all, your Provider will bring all the supplies: foundation, concealer, primer, lip colors, eye shadow, setting powder, mascara, spoolies, blush, bronzer, setting spray, brow pencil, tissue, mirror, and even an airbrush machine for airbrush services.

Before your appointment, wash your face and apply your skincare routine before your Provider arrives. Chat with your Provider through the Soothe app to discuss skin tone and preferred colors.

Love your look? Be sure to leave a tip for your Provider and rate your experience. Add them to your Favorites to easily rebook for your next glamworthy celebration.

Lash appointments

Whether you’re going for a natural, sultry, or dramatic look, nothing makes a statement quite like a good lash game. Booking a treatment with a licensed professional can help you accentuate your look with gorgeous eyelash extensions.

To ensure a relaxing experience, refrain from consuming caffeine at least 2-3 hours before your appointment. To prepare, wash your face and skip the makeup. Remove your contacts and get into comfortable clothes. Go to the Soothe app to chat with your Provider about what kind of look you’d like to achieve and what to expect.

During your appointment, avoid talking and feel free to take a nap. We recommend listening to music or tuning in to your favorite podcast while your Provider goes to work.

After your appointment, remember to avoid getting your lashes wet for at least 24 hours. Brush them twice a day with a clean mascara wand and wash in oil-free soap, preferably foam soap. Ask your Provider for recommendations! To make them last, avoid picking or pulling and don’t apply mascara.

Want to keep your eyelashes flawless year round? Add your Provider to your Favorites in the Soothe app for easily rebook with them in the future.

We know that water makes up about 60% of the human body, but do you know what water actually does for your body? When you sip on water, you get a host of amazing health benefits. Read on to get a crash course in all things hydration.

Health benefits of drinking water

Drinking water is extremely important to your health. Hydration goes well beyond just quenching your thirst. As part of your daily wellness routine, keeping up with your water intake also:

  • Maintains your body temperature
  • Detoxifies by eliminating waste throughout your body
  • Helps your heart pump blood
  • Aids in digestion and absorption
  • Transports nutrients throughout the body
  • Keeps skin glowy and healthy

Electrolytes. What are they, anyway?

Electrolytes are essential minerals the body uses for basic functions. The most widely known electrolytes are sodium, potassium, chloride, phosphate, and magnesium. They’re important for motor, digestive, and neurological functions, so optimal hydration keeps all these minerals in balance.

You lose a lot of electrolytes through sweat. During exercise or on hot days, you’ll need to do more than drink plain water to stay healthy. So, how can you replenish electrolytes? You get most of your daily electrolytes through food, so eating whole foods is a great place to start. If you’re sweating a lot, you may want to sip coconut water, 100% fruit juice, or a sports drink. But beware of some sports drinks. Many marketed electrolyte drinks are high in sugar and contain dyes and other chemicals that aren’t great in high doses.

Beyond H2O: surprising ways to stay hydrated

  • Use a humidifier. Did you know your skin contains 64% water? Adding more water to your environment can actually help you keep hydrated. A humidifier is a great way to accomplish this, especially in dry desert and winter weather.
  • Eat foods high in water content. Snacking on lettuce, watermelon, celery, cucumber, strawberries, and tomatoes can help you get extra hydration.
  • Take care of your skin. Speaking of parched, you can also lose a lot of moisture through your skin. Applying lotions to your body helps protect your skin barrier to retain more moisture. Similarly, getting regular hydrating facials is a great way to get that fresh, supple, and glowy look.

Hydration FAQs

How much water do you need a day?

The Mayo Clinic recommends drinking 3.7 liters (124 ounces) for men and 2.7 liters (92 ounces) for women. However, everyone is different! Your body size, activity levels, and overall health also affect how much water you need.

When is the best time to drink water?

Ideally, you should be sipping on water throughout the day. But there are a few times where you should pay extra attention to your hydration. Drinking a glass of water right when you wake up is a great way to start the day off right. You should also drink water after a massage and exercise or stretch to help keep soreness at bay. Having water with meals can aid in digestion as well. The weather matters, too. If it’s hot or you’re spending more time outside, you’ll need to increase your water intake.

Can you drink too much water?

Yes. It’s rare, but overhydration is possible! Drinking too much water overloads your kidneys and dilutes the sodium content in your blood. The resulting condition, called hyponatremia, can be life-threatening. This condition is rare in healthy adults, however.

How to tell if you’re dehydrated

There are a lot of tips for drinking enough water out there. But do you know how to tell if you’re dehydrated? Surprisingly, it’s more than just being thirsty. Becoming dehydrated can happen very quickly and is a very serious condition. So, paying attention to your body and knowing the signs of dehydration is important.

  • Feeling over-tired or fatigued
  • Headaches
  • Dark urine
  • Dry mouth
  • Flushed skin
  • Fast breathing and increased pulse
  • Dizziness

If you do find yourself dehydrated, it’s important to get some water or fluid quickly. To prevent dehydration, always have water nearby. This may require some planning ahead, especially for long trips.

Have trouble getting enough water? Try these tips.

Some people just can’t seem to meet their water intake needs. If you do not like sipping a glass of water, try these hydration tips to get more water.

  • Sip through a (reusable) straw
  • Infuse your water with lemon, strawberries, or cucumbers
  • Change up your temperature by adding ice or sipping on hot herbal tea
  • Get a cool water bottle to make hydration more fashionable
  • Use a smartphone app to track your water intake
  • Replace at least one beverage a day with water
  • Reward yourself for hitting your hydration goals

Whether you’re looking for way to recharge your skin, treat acne and blemishes, reduce impurities, or just want a hour of “me time,” a facial may be just what you need. In fact, it can be a great bonding session among friends or family, a great way to give your skin some love and be pampered – it’s nice to be pampered sometimes.

Although you may be brand new to facials, most of you reading this are aware of what a facial is. That can be both good and bad (depending on what you’ve heard). Let’s go ahead and address the elephant in the room – facial extractions. Some people are very apprehensive about getting facials because of the extraction. Some claim that the pain is enough to make them wince, while others say the pain is so bad it makes them cry. Do facials hurt? Should you be scared to get a facial? No worry, we’re here to answer all your facial questions.

Here’s what you should expect during your first facial.

Understanding a facial

If you’re planning to book a facial, we do recommend enlisting the services of an esthetician. We define an esthetician as “a skin care therapist or technician, or facial specialist who helps with cleaning, beautifying and maintaining the skin and face.”

There’s a big benefit working with an esthetician, they’re professional skin therapist and have the proper training to work on your face and skin. That should ease your mind a little because if you’re planning to book your first facial, you’re likely nervous about the experience. That’s completely normal. You don’t want just anyone working on your skin, this is especially true when it comes to your face. Most can agree to that.

For those of you that may be new to the term “facial,” a facial is a set of skin care treatments for your face with the goal of exfoliating your skin, removing impurities, and dead skin. It is usually performed in beauty salons, day spas, and even your dermatologist’s office. However, thanks to Soothe, you can now get a professional facial from the comfort of your home! Makes for a great gift – check out Soothe’s gift card for that.

A facial treatment can differ from one provider to the next. It can be as extensive as one where you are given a full body massage in the package, or others where you are only given the basics. Essentially, a facial treatment usually includes steaming, exfoliation, and extraction. It’s not uncommon for some providers to offer facial masks, peels, and facial massages. It really depends on the specific service or package you purchase. Since provider services differ, you’ll want to make sure you discuss their service offering in detail so you fully understand everything that’s being offered.

How are facials performed?

To start with, facials can be performed in a few different ways. Please note, while the outline below is meant to give you an idea of how a facial is performed, the process may differ depending on the provider’s facial services and processes. We just wanted to give you a general idea of what to expect during your facial treatment.

  1. Pre-Preperations: Depending on where you are going to have a facial, one of the most common first steps is pre-preparations. Some spas and providers will suggest getting changed into something comfortable (this could be a robe or just loose clothing), especially for those of you that will be requesting a full body massage afterwards. Note though, you’ll never be required to take off clothing, only to your comfort level. Some will give you a foot bath with a shoulder massage, while others will simply ask you go to the treatment area. A special favorite is when the esthetician asks you to lay down on the bed and gives you a brisk shoulder and facial massage, followed by the smelling of relaxing oils such as lavender. The preparation will usually depend on the package you have purchased.
  2. Facial Cleansing: Most providers are going to ask you to wash your face with a special soap. For example, some spas will have specific soaps for different skin types, such as oily or a dry skin. On the other hand, some will ask you to lay on a comfortable bed and the esthetician will wash your face for you. This facial cleansing is commonly a soothing experience. Your esthetician will use mild products to gently cleanse your skin using tender, moderate strokes. It also serves as a massage, helping you fall into a deeper state of relaxation.

Now that prep is over and your skin is clean, we can move to the next steps.

  1. Exfoliating: Once all of your makeup is gone and your skin is fully cleansed, you’ll then get to experience exfoliation. Providers will use a few different exfoliates, some may be gentle while others need a good facial scrub. No matter what type you get, the goal of the exfoliating process is to get rid of dead skin cells and skin impurities that aren’t embedded in the skin. The esthetician will wash this off and you will be ready for the next step.
  2. Steaming: Some spas and providers will not offer steaming, some of them will offer it. Steaming helps open your pores so that your skin is better prepared for the extraction process. This may also help your extraction be more comfortable and less painful. The esthetician will usually switch on the steamer and point it in the general direction of your face. You will be asked if you can breathe properly or if you are uncomfortable in any way. You should speak up if you are uncomfortable, because you have to be under the steam for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Extraction: The extraction is often most challenging part of a facial. Although that is true, it shouldn’t scare you away from getting a facial. As long as you have a good esthetician, it shouldn’t be painful. Many men and women find this process to be comfortable, some people even fall asleep during extraction. The esthetician will remove skin impurities that are within the outer layer of your skin – which includes mild acne, blackheads, and whiteheads. If anything is too deep, then the esthetician should recommend a dermatologist to have it extracted. They don’t typically touch acne that is about to be burst, or pop acne that aren’t ready to be popped.
  4. Finishing up: The last step of the facial process is closing up your pores. The extract process can differ depending on if you’re booking with a provider or going to a spa, so please keep that in mind. During this time, your esthetician may use a number of different things, such as cold wraps, gauze mask, chemical peels, or facial masks.

Chemical Peels And Facial Masks

Over the last few years, we’ve seen a lot of people now have acne and clogged pores, these are men and women that have never had major facial skin problems. Why? These are from the common effects of wearing facial masks for long periods at a time likely during the coronavirus pandemic.

During stressful situations the body’s increases production of the stress hormone “cortisol” – which stimulates increased production of oil. This can clog pores and worsen existing acne – as well as cause new breakouts in people who normally do not suffer from acne.

You have to understand the main purpose people wore masks during the pandemic – the goal was to keep viruses out. By doing so, this kept moisture in the face, which keeps the pore-blocking oil within your skin. Due to this, many people are now experiencing pimples and acne eruptions brought on by wearing masks. When worn for long periods of time, the masks can cause abrasions and redness of the skin. The good news, facial treatments can reverse these conditions.

During your facial, you may be able to choose from a few different chemical peels and facial masks. All peels and masks have a purpose, that purpose will depend on the specific condition you have or what you’re trying to achieve with your facial. For example, you’ll find that some facial masks are for acne, others are for oily skin or skin tightening. Your esthetician should be able to recommend which chemical peels and facial mask are best for your unique skin type.

Different types of facials

Now that you know the core processes of a facial, you should be aware that there’s a wide range of different types of facials that you can choose from. Due to this, it’s important to know what types of facials are available and how each one can benefit you.

  • Acne Facial – An acne facial is as described, it’s used to help you treat acne. Often referred to as a “decongesting facial” or “deep cleaning” facial, this treatment will generally include extractions and may use high frequency devices to kill bacteria that causes acne. Like with most facials, acne facial treatments will also help you clean out clogged pores and work on other blemishes.
  • Anti-Aging Facial – An anti-aging facial treatment is a great idea for those of you that already have a regular skin care regiment. This facial treatment works to cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate, and brighten skin to give your face a youthful appearance.
  • Hydrating Facial – Hydrating facial treatments focus on using both exfoliation and hydration, it uses devices similar to those used for microdermabrasion to clean out your pores. It also injects nutrient-rich serum boosters to help rejuvenate the skin. This facial is great for those of you that may be suffering from dry facial skin.
  • Brightening Facial – A brightening facial treatment is great for anyone that has hyperpigmentation, skin discoloration, or skin that is dull or not glowing. This facial treatment uses face peels, masks, and acid treatments to give skin a luminous and healthy-looking finish.
  • LED Facial – While the technology is still relatively new, low-level light therapy is a growing trend. Many clients have praised LED facials, claiming that they fight bacteria, heals scarring, and promotes collagen production. The LED lights come in a few different colors, they represent different wavelengths that enter the skin at different depths, this helps them treat different skin concerns.
  • Microdermabrasion Facial – As described by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment that consists of using a handheld device to gently remove the top layer of skin. The microdermabrasion facial treatment facial will usually take 30-45 minutes to complete. Once you’re done, a moisturizer is then added to your face.
  • Lymphatic Facial – You can read all about lymphatic massages here (including how to perform your own at home), but generally, this centuries-old technique helps aid the body’s natural detox process. “This unique massage technique stimulates lymph flow and enhances the clearance of accumulated waste in the body,” says Ivonne Boujaoude, DNM, health coach at Modern Holistic Health.

How are facials beneficial?

A good way to think about this question is thinking about your own health. As we get older, it becomes increasingly important to have annual checkups with a physician to address any concerns. However, a doctor may recommend seeing a dietitian if you’re trying to meet specific nutrition goals. You may also get referred to a physical therapists due to an old sports injury, or a massage therapist for a sports massage. It’s no different when it comes to skin care, you may see a dermatologist for regular checkup and they may refer you to an esthetician to help with your skin.

That’s what estheticians do, they help you manage your skin in an impactful way. Appointments are going to vary, but for a first visit, you may want to expect at least an hour or so, this will give them plenty of time to spend evaluating your skin and address any concerns or goals you want to focus on.

Facial treatments are great for cleaning out your pores, keeping your skin moisturized, and balancing out your skin. While there’s a lot of skincare products you can use, your esthetician will likely discuss how to care for your skin at home. If you’re having trouble with acne, the esthetician may talk about what foods and drinks you should avoid. Estheticians works with a number of different skin types on a regular basis, so many of them have a lot of experience to help you along your own skin care journey. We always recommend getting professional skin care advice early, this is what will help you create good skincare habits at an early age.

Remember, just like with anything else you do in life, it’s up to you to put in the work. If you want youthful looking skin, you’ll have to make the efforts to achieve it. It’ll take regular care and treatments. If you’re not using the right products for your skin consistently, the results of a facial won’t last as long.

How often should you get a facial?

How many facial treatments does a person need? That’s a great question. The type of facial you get depends on the specific conditions you’re treating. Some people may need 1-2 facials to reach their goal, others may need 5-6 facial treatments. It all depends on your unique scenario.

Most skincare professionals recommend opting for a facial at least once a month. The skin regenerates about every 28 days. The skin cells come back and accumulate. Due to this, it’s best to treat the skin at the end of the skin-life cycle. On that note, you don’t want to get more than one facial per month, this can do more harm than good.

Getting a regular monthly facial is great for women and men that have specific skin concerns, such as acne, scarring, dryness, etc. If you are getting monthly facial treatment, that also means you’ll be seeing an esthetician regularly which means you can discuss the progress and results in real-time. That’s a big benefit. Your esthetician will be able to analyze your skin to determine the appropriate routine for your skin. Plus, these monthly facials will be a good way to see what’s working and what is not, allowing you to make adjustments to your routine as needed.

If your budget or life won’t allow you to get a monthly facial, the next best thing is getting them when the seasons change – which would be 2-4 facial per year. At the end of the day, the right esthetician for you will work with you on an individual schedule and honor any constraints you may have: A good esthetician should be able to curate your home care routine around how often you can or want to come in for a facial and still help you achieve your skin care goals.

Best facial for different skin conditions

  1. Dry Skin – For those of you with dry skin, the best facial treatments are going to be the ones that cleanse and hydrate the skin. Think the hydrating facial is a good candidate here. The hydro facial treatment uses calming ingredients like aloe, hyaluronic acid, and others too hydrate, and plump your skin.
  2. Aging Skin – If skin aging is your main concern, you’ll want to seek rejuvenating facials that promote collagen production and something that can improve cell turnover. There’s a few options here you should consider. Think firming or microcurrent facials to lift and tone your skin, LED treatments (especially red LED light) to support elasticity, and lymphatic facials to improve circulation.
  3. Dull Skin – In many cases, massage therapy can be great for any of you that have dull skin, as it stimulates blood flow, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to the skin cells. This is what gives you that beautiful glow. Many estheticians are professionally trained in facial massage, the reason being is because it can help you achieve brighter, glowing skin by increasing circulation. This is beneficial if you struggle with a dull-looking complexion.
  4. Breakouts – If you’re suffering from acne breakouts, then an acne treatment is what you’re going to need. Acne facials target the bacteria that causes facial blemishes. LED treatments may be another option you may wish to consider for defeating acne-causing bacteria. Blue LED may be introduced in some cases.  If you do have active breakouts, your esthetician might also go light on the massage work or skip it entirely: This step might be omitted for those who are dealing with severe breakouts, since it may be too much stimulation to be beneficial.

In Closing

As you now know, there’s a number of different facial treatments to choose from and facials have a lot of benefits. You also learned that different facials treat different conditions, hopefully now you have a better idea of the specific facial treatment you need.

Have you been wondering what happens during an acne facial? If you’ve never had an acne treatment facial done, they may seem kind of mysterious (even a little intimidating).

Although they’re not a necessary part of your acne treatment routines, having regular facials done can help clear out blackheads and blocked pores. Even better, they can also complement other acne medications that you may be taking.

Each esthetician has her own style, but acne treatment facials generally follow the same basic procedure. Here’s what you can expect during your first acne treatment facial.

What is an acne facial?

Also known by “deep cleansing facial,” “decongesting facial facial,” or “deep cleaning facial,” this type of facial treatment profoundly purifies the skin and will usually include multiple rounds of extractions to unclog the pores. While a good acne facial can help clear up acne, bad cases of acne may need additional treatment options. Most people think an acne facial treatment is just for that, treating acne. However, these facial treatments will usually add and omit certain steps during the process in order to treat and prevent blemishes.

Your basic acne facials are going to use products that have specific ingredients to target acne bacteria and break up excess dirt and oil in the pores. Those ingredients likely include salicylic acid, sulfur, benzoyl peroxide, and tea tree oil.

Every case of acne is unique, so different acne facial treatment options are available to try. For example, an esthetician may consider using LED light therapy, this can kill acne-producing bacteria. Different colored LED lights can produce different results. A blue LED light can be used to control sebum regulation and soothe the skin. A green LED light may be used to reduce hyperpigmentation and calming redness. They might also introduce a high-frequency device to target active blemishes.

In other cases, your esthetician may decide to go light on the massage or skip it all together, this is especially true if you have breakouts that are active. This step might be avoided for those who are dealing with severe breakouts, this is because it may provide too much stimulation. In such cases, this can give your esthetician more time to focus on extractions.

What are the benefits of an acne facial?

Nearly every type of facial is going to provide a deeper clean to your face, but acne facials are unique in the fact that they offer more targeted steps to address stubborn spots. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how acne facials can be beneficial.

  • Hydrating the skin: Anytime that you’re treating acne, the last thing you want to do is overwhelm the skin with peels and extractions, as the skin might overproduce oil to compensate, leading to even more breakouts. “The goal is to remove the excess surface sebum, dead skin cells, and buildup in pores while eliminating bacteria without inducing a sebum response,” says board-certified dermatologist Ava Shamban, M.D., founder of SKINFIVE. So your esthetician will likely throw some hydration into the mix, like a cooling mask to soothe inflammation.
  • Treatment for active blemishes: Extractions are great for treating comedonal acne (which includes blackheads and whiteheads), this is because esthetician will manually squeeze out all the excess gunk from the pores. If you have inflamed acne, you may want to consider using high-frequency devices. High-frequency machines or wands are used to treat and prevent problematic acne, decrease the appearance of pore size, and kill bacteria.
  • Prevents future breakouts: Acne facials will generally include exfoliating cleansers or peels, these will usually contain ingredients like salicylic acid or glycolic acid. These ingredients are used to speed up cell turnover, unclog pores, and help you contain future breakouts from forming.

Who should get one?

If you’re someone that is dealing with active breakouts or congested skin, you may benefit from an acne facial. Women and men that struggle with mild to moderate acne (blackheads, whiteheads, clogged pores) would make for a good candidate.

If you have severe, highly inflammatory acne (this could include cystic or nodular bumps), you may want to consult with a dermatologist before you book a facial. Your dermatologist will review your unique scenario and come up with a plan of attack. You can still seek out an esthetician if you wish.

How do acne facials work?

It’s important to note, every esthetician has their own styles and processes. You’re going to find out that not all acne facials follow the same exact form. With that being said, here’s what you can expect during your facial:

  1. Cleanse: This is your typical first step with any facial. You always want to start with a clean face. During an acne facial, an esthetician is going to cleanse your skin to remove all traces of buildup. It’s possible you may need 1-2 additional cleanses.
  2. Exfoliate: In order to prepare the skin for extractions, the esthetician will likely exfoliate your skin, this may include a vibrating scrubber to manually remove congestion, gentle peel, or a tea-tree-oil-infused toner. The goal here is to penetrate the pores to break up built-up oil, this will make your extractions easier.
  3. Extract: With your cleanse and exfoliation done, it’s now time for your extractions. The esthetician will likely use one of two strategies here, either by using the finger method or a they may use a comedone extractor tool to gently remove blackheads and whiteheads. If a specific area looks too deep or angry to extract, don’t be surprised if it’s skipped.
  4. Treat: High-frequency devices are used to eliminate leftover bacteria on the surface, it can also decrease inflammation of painful cystic acne. During this stage, your esthetician may also introduce LED light therapy to calm the skin and prevent future breakouts from forming.
  5. Moisturize & calm: It’s important that acne-prone skin is properly hydrated. Hyaluronic serums used at the end of an acne facial help to keep the skin hydrated and protected. Algae-infused mask may be added to calm the skin and give your face much needed nutrients. The facial will then end with a moisturizer and SPF, leaving your skin feeling clean and refreshed.

What are the best facials for acne?

Now that you more about acne facials, which facials are going to be best for acne? While there is no one-cure-fits-all when it comes to acne, facials are known for calming the effects and conditions that come with it. Below are a few different facials that you could consider to help treat your problems with acne. However, a professional esthetician will know what your specific skin type needs after an individualized consultation.

(1) Classic Facial

Your typical classic facial comes with a deep cleansing, extractions of whiteheads and blackheads, a head and neck massage, and relaxation. The goal after a classic facial is to wake up looking and feeling rested and refreshed. There’s no question about it, a classic facial can help with acne.

(2) LED Facial

As we discussed earlier, LED lights are a common treatment for acne. LED facials use a combination of white, red, and blue infrared light that can work on your tone, collagen, and skin bacteria.. The goal of LED light therapy is meant to fight against active acne and is ideal for anyone that may have sensitive skin.

(3) Microdermabrasion Facial

This non-invasive cosmetic treatment is one of the fastest ways to get a healthy glow, involving a handheld device used to buff away the top layers of dead skin. Depressed scars and discoloration can improve with this facial. The goal after a microdermabrasion is brighter, smoother, more evenly toned skin.

(4) Brightening Facial

This acne facial treatment can include a variety of different things, such as different acid peels, masks, and serums. Brightening facials target dark marks, these are also commonly called hyperpigmentation. The goal of a brightening facial is to reduce the discoloration left over from previous acne problems.

(5) Decongesting Facial

This facial treatment is essentially like professional pore-digging to remove minor breakouts. The goal of a decongesting facial is to clear blocked pores and to help dissolve the outer layers of skin for resurfacing, which can also help keep your pores clean.
